The Greeks believed souls could inhabit butterflies while passing from one life to the next. Her best known tale involved Aphrodite's jealousy of Psyche's beauty. Aphrodite sent her son Cupid to shoot Psyche with an arrow so that she would fall in love with an ugly man. Cupid accidentally shot himself and fell in love with Psyche. Cupid came to Psyche each night, but only in total darkness. She tried to leave the light on one night, but Cupid fled. Psyche searched the world over for Cupid. Eventually Aphrodite took pity on her and brought Psyche to Olympus to join Cupid. |
